Befriending the Pelvis & Building Resilience in Womens’ Spaces

Aphroditetorso

It’s truly amazing what happens when we work with the pelvis in a tranquil, grounded environment. Twice a week, women of all ages gather at the Ashland Y to practice with me in the beautiful Wellness Studio. I curate a special playlist for moves that invite women back into their bodies: grounded, centered and ready for deeper work.

In class, we practice a gentle, progressive approach to pelvic wellness. Using the barre and floor as support, we move through sequences designed to open, stabilize, and tone the pelvic bowl. Breath, props, somatic awareness, and anatomical precision help guide the journey to the deeper levels of the core and pelvic floor. It goes beyond stretching and strengthening: we listen, engage, release, and re-pattern, with a healthy dose of nervous-system work woven in at key points.

Participants report increased mobility, more tone and energy flow through the region, and support for issues like incontinence, prolapse, postpartum healing, and tension patterns from long-held trauma. More than anything, women say they leave feeling revitalized, connected and whole. Here are some of the responses I’ve received from students:

“Sophia’s class left me feeling enlivened, yet calm. It was so gentle, yet powerfully effective. Walked out taller and happier” – Barbara

“Sophia is an inspiring, energetic, compassionate and knowledgeable instructor. She combines low-impact movements, targeted muscle strengthening and mindful breathing to successfully strengthen our core muscles, pelvic floor areas and other often-overlooked pelvic muscles. Her deep understanding of the human anatomy and the impact of our nervous system is invaluable.  Her class is enjoyable and relaxing and we leave feeling energized.  Thank you, Sophia, for your positive and loving energy!” – Dory and Peggy

“Every woman needs this practice!” – Nora

I enjoy this group of women so much! We’ve really become a community around pelvic health, and the container welcomes new faces all the time. If you live in Ashland or ever visit, come try a class!
